In a recent district court case, judge Edward Lodge rejected an environmentalist challenge to the state of Idaho's wolf management program that includes trapping two packs of wolves in the Frank Church Wilderness.  Basically, the state wanted to trap two wolf packs that were impacting the elk herd.  Defenders of Wildlife sued, and the judge ruled in favor of the state.  It's an … [Read more...]

In addition to Idaho, Montana and Minnesota, trappers will likely be able to pursue wolves in Wisconsin this fall.  Recent wolf delisting by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has turned over wolf management to the states of Minnesota and Wisconsin.  The Wisconsin season would include managed hunting and trapping, with a goal to reduce the wolf population to a more publicly … [Read more...]

What effect will the resolution have?  I'm not sure, but it probably won't do much.  As far as I can tell, … [Read more...]

Trappers and hunters have a lot to look forward to in 2011, including the potential removal of a furbearer from the U.S. Endangered Species List, but I wouldn't start holding my breath just yet. The Trapper and Predator Caller blog reports that the Eastern Timber Wolf is expected to be removed from the Endangered Species List by the end of the year, returning wolf management … [Read more...]

November 16, 2010 by Trapper Leave a Comment

As wolf populations continue to expand in Montana, Idaho and Wyoming, wolves are beginning to move into many areas they were never expected to roam again.  In anticipation of this, the state of Utah put together a wolf management plan several years ago to help guide decisions in the event that wolves moved into the state.  Lots of people thought the folks in Utah were crazy, … [Read more...]
