In this episode I sit down with Cole Porter at Neil Olson’s New England Trappers Weekend. We discuss a variety of topics, including buying used traps, picking up supplies, trapping bumper stickers, season plans, trapping around competition, teachers of the night, trapping lures, bear trapping and trapping books. Hope you enjoy!
Note: I had a hard time editing out some of the loud background noise in a few places. Spent a couple hours on it with no success, decided to put it out there anyway. Sorry for any listening inconvenience this may cause.

I am not sure if you have heard of Alvin Yates but he was a well know trapper in the 70 and 80s for foxes. He also sold his own brand of lure called White Mountain Lures and baits. I think he was the 1st to catch/ set the record for 100 of them in Maine He even had a picture of his catch of 70 foxes in the Portland paper. You will not see this anymore. He trapped with Neil Olson. He trapped in Oxford county mostly but also NH/Vt Alaska and Russia. He now lives in West Paris Maine but still traps on a smaller scale. Great guy in his late 60s early 70. He was the one that got me started into trapping 50 years ago. He would defiantly be an interesting person to do your podcast on and I am sure many of your listeners will remember him.

Hey Dave, good to hear from you. I mentioned Mr Yates in the previous podcast episode. Talked with him at Neil’s and I’m hoping I can interview him sometime.
