The Fisher (Martes pennati) is a large furbearer in the weasel family found in northern climates across the U.S. and Canada. Fisher populations are common and healthy in many Northeast states, and the species has shown incredible recovery after reintroduction in Pennsylvania:

Meanwhile, in the Western U.S., environmental groups have petitioned the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to consider the fisher as an endangered species. The agency is currently conducting a status review. Previous reviews have shown the the species does not need federal protection, and is well managed by state agencies.
