It’s often tough to find a good gift that can share our passion for trapping with the younger generation. For the really little guys and gals, whose age is measured in the single digits, an interactive book can be just the ticket. “Furry Critters of North America” integrates furbearer education and our love for trapping into a great gift for future trappers. It’s a board book that includes real patches of fur from seven different furbearers, and a few poetic lines describing their habits and habitat.
“Furry Critters” is written and illustrated by Bryna Jaqua of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and is published by PCS Outdoors. My two boys (age 2 and 4) absolutely love the book. We read it just about every day. The two year old has always loved fur and often sleeps with tanned muskrat and mink pelts we have around the house, so naturally he took to the book pretty quickly! He rubs his hands over each fur patch as we read about the different furbearers. It’s a great way to expose young children to the critters we love, respect and harvest responsibly as trappers.
You can pick up a copy of “Furry Critters” from PCS Outdoors, or by clicking this link. It’s a little pricey, but you won’t find another book like it.
