It appears that the economic crisis in Russia, weakness in other countries and a strong U.S. dollar have combined to put a huge damper on the already weak fur market this season. Here’s the latest update from Groenewold Fur & Wool.
Fur prices
Raccoon: Cheap Chinese raccoon prices and the falling Ruble continue to hurt American raccoon. Muskrat: Cheap Ranch Mink and lack of Korean buying have seriously undermined the value of this product. Beaver: Better beaver are difficult to sell. Wild Mink: Watch ranch mink prices… Coyote: Coyotes continue to sell well and should see better prices. Grey Fox: Very slow. Red Fox: Very slow, especially in China. Skunk: Slow item again. Fisher: Prices have really come down. Otter: Very difficult to move. Bobcats: Still selling relatively well.

I have lots of coyotes stalking exotic game farm. I’ve gained hunting access for Deer for exchange in controlling the coyote population. Several cameras have shown very healthy coyotes. My question.. how to get started selling pelts?
Jeremiah says
Hi Chris,
You might start by asking around for information on local fur buyers. If you can meet a buyer in your area that would be a great way to get started. Also try joining your State Trappers Association and local chapter, if there is one. Your state wildlife management agency may be able to provide some contacts as well. Good luck!

Sold today. Coyotes brought good money. Coons were pretty poor. But it’s beats keeping them in the freezer.

Hi James. Thanks for your comment.
Here are a few fur buyers from Mississippi:
Bienville Outdoors
400 Davis Road
Morton, MS 39117
Phone: (601) 278-5391
Duke Company
P.O. Box 555
West Point, MS 39773
Phone: (662) 494-6767
Mike Hatcher
9317 Atalla Road
Kosciusko, MS 39090
Phone: (662) 289-1100
Your other options would be to ship the fur to NAFA or FHA, or to the Mississippi Trappers Association’s annual fur auction. I believe it’s held every February.
Here’s a link to an update I provided on fur prices recently: https://www.trappingtoday.com/trapping-todays-2015-2016-fur-market-update/
I have been working on an idea for an ebook Guide to Pricing and Selling Your Fur. You can read more and provide input here: https://www.trappingtoday.com/a-guide-to-pricing-and-selling-your-fur-what-do-you-think/

I am from the southern parts of the United States, I am 43 old as a kid I grew up trapping to make my extra money. But that was when a few old timers existed that bought hides and stuff. No where within 100 miles of me buys furs. I would like to know some fur buyers close by that would buy a mass amount of furs. A few prices to know what the market looks like. And a list of the specific furs most in demand. Any help and or information you could give would be of great help and very much appreciated.
Thank you to anyone that can help me. I do not do the internet thing very often, so if you can shoot me a text or a call @ 601-964-1970.
Again Thank you.
James.
