If you’ve followed this blog for a while, you have a good idea of my struggles on the marten trapline in recent years. This year I got the chance to put our a marten line earlier in the season, and got 25 sets out in new country that looked to be good marten habitat, but I’d never trapped there before.
On Thursday, I checked the line for the first time. The sets yielded two marten and a weasel. It wasn’t the best check in the world, but was enough success to allow me to celebrate the break in my marten trapping drought, and keep running the line with enthusiasm. Hopefully this is good news for the marten line moving forward!

Jeremiah, you been on your line since the snow? How was it for blowdowns and brush in the road. Took me 4 hrs to cut out a 5 mile section of my line. I was going to pull but I thought, well I already got it cut out and there was more sign around so I left them. still 5 more miles to go this afternoon and I’m not looking forward to it. So is the life of a trapper.

I pulled out just before the first storm. Don’t have a reliable sled so couldn’t take the chance. Planning to reset in a new area on plowed roads this weekend. Good luck clearing things out, that’s messy work right now!

Any luck Trevor? I tried a new line – 20 sets for 4 days without a single sign of marten, so I pulled. Sled’s not running so I guess I’m stuck to plowed roads now!

Catching some but a lot of refusals especially from fisher with the little boxes. I pulled and am regrouping for another line I haven’t been on for a few years. I am making some more boxes for fisher and will set 1 each at a set for the last 2 weeks. I start work In the logging world tomorrow so I will set up again next weekend. I am still going on snowsled but larger unplowed roads for less problems. What is wrong with your sled?
What is it for a sled?

It’s a 2002 Polaris 340 Touring. When it’s warmer than 20 degrees out the sled bogs down and won’t spin the track. Idles good but no power.
