The Montana Trappers Association held their Western States Fur Auction in Livingston on February 24, 2018. Overall it appears to have been a great sale considering the current state of the fur market. Here are some highlights:
Beaver did better than any auction I’ve seen this season, with 55 beavs averaging close to $17.
Bobcat were the highlight of the sale, as they are in most of these western auctions. Cats averaged $291. Again there was a wide spread between averages and highs, with the top cat selling for $957!
As expected, coyotes did well. Montana has some of the best quality coyotes on the market, and this collection of just over 600 sold for an average of around $65.
Red Fox averaged $21.
Marten were mostly unsold, but 40 went for an average of $28.
Muskrat averaged $2.59.
Coons sold for around $8.50, and 25 skunks brought almost $8.
By the way…..dude who maintains the Montana Trappers Association website….best in the business. You guys are lucky to have him.
