Judge Rules in Favor of Trappers in Maine Lynx Lawsuit

November 11, 2009 by Trapper 1 Comment

The Maine lynx lawsuit has finally reached a conclusion.  After over a year of litigation and a six-day trial this past spring and summer, federal judge John Woodcock issued a 30 page ruling yesterday, which put an end to the current efforts of animal rights activists to ban many forms of trapping in northern Maine.  Here's what you need to know: "The Court denies the … [Read more...]

HR 3710: The Bill to Ban Trapping in National Wildlife Refuges

November 7, 2009 by Trapper Leave a Comment

A new bill introduced to the U.S. Congress by representative Nita Lowey of New York would essentially ban trapping in all National Wildlife Refuges in the country.  The bill, referred to as the "Refuge from Cruel Trapping Act" states that it would ban body-gripping traps, but when you actually read the legislation, it would ban all but live cage-type traps. See for yourself: A … [Read more...]

I’m Back!

November 5, 2009 by Trapper Leave a Comment

Wow, it's been a while since I last posted on TrappingToday.com.  Since last May, I've been involved in lots of great things, and more recently, big game hunting has taken up a huge portion of my time.  While I still plan on pursuing big game here in Montana over the next month (I still have two elk tags to fill), I'll also start posting much more frequently here on the … [Read more...]

Washington Trapping Ban Continues to Impact Landowners

April 30, 2009 by Trapper 1 Comment

A number of states have banned trapping over the past two decades, and in virtually every instance, the loss of trapping has resulted in vast increases in problems with overpopulations of furbearers. One such instance is taking place in the state of Washington, where trapping was banned in the year 2000.  Two brothers on the Wilson Banner Ranch, a fruit orchard in Alpowa … [Read more...]

What Trapping Ban Would Cost Connecticut

April 20, 2009 by Trapper Leave a Comment

Animal rights activists often state that banning wildlife management activities like trapping will have no impact on the economy.  Such was the case when proponents of S.B. 994 (which, if passed, would have banned trapping in Connecticut) would have no economic impact in the state. They were wrong. Jeff Serena, over at the Connecticut Nature Examiner, reports on an assessment … [Read more...]

Ban on Trapping Fails in Connecticut

April 18, 2009 by Trapper 1 Comment

Great news, trappers!  Word has it that Connecticut's Senate Bill 994, which would have essentially outlawed trapping in Connecticut, has failed to pass the Senate Judiciary Committee.  For now, the bill is dead, meaning that trapping can continue under the existing regulations administered by the Connecticut DNR. Efforts from Connecticut trappers, as well as trappers from all … [Read more...]
