In episode 68 of the Trapping Today Podcast, we talk about the legendary Sam O. White, a Maine-born hunter and trapper who became an Alaska wildlife agent and bush pilot in the early years wildlife management in Alaska. I read a bunch of excerpts from the book and provide a little bit of personal perspective on what I took away from Sam’s story. Enjoy!

Jim Firmin says
Maybe I missed it but how did Sam White come to know Walter Arnold ?
Jeremiah says
That’s a great question, Jim. I don’t know for sure, but I believe it was from either Sam or Charlie Mayse (Sam’s friend) reading Walt’s articles in Fur-Fish-Game, and Sam having grown up in the general area where Walt was trapping. Not sure who sent the first letter, but they struck up quite a friendship and wrote letters back and forth for quite some time.
