Trapping in 1861: Podcast Episode 168

February 6, 2021 by Jeremiah

Ever wonder what it was like to be in the north woods before the Civil War? There isn’t a lot of reliable, first hand information out there, but Manly Hardy wrote a great deal about his trapping and hunting excursions around that time. In this episode I discuss the latest goings on with me at TT, and then get into a reading from Manly Hardy’s woods trip to the Allagash Lake area of northern Maine in 1861. If you enjoy this, stay tuned for a book project I’m working on to make Hardy’s trapping writings more accessible!
