Here’s another article about increasing demand for fur in China. While the fur market has languished in North America and Western Europe for decades due to shifting culture and animal rights activists, things are different in China.

Thanks for the comments Kerry. Remember that just because I post an article doesn’t mean I agree with everything that’s written in it. You have a good point that China’s culture around fur turns some people off. The fact is, however, that without China, our market for wild furs would be in even worse shape than it is. According to the article, it’s a 16.9 billion dollar market, compared to less than 10% of that in other major fur consuming countries.
One point that I got from the article was the increase in Chinese fur farm production (it doubled in 5 years), which is pumping out a lot of low cost furs and probably hurting the overall market. Similar to other products that China produces cheaply, I’m not sure how we as trappers can solve that problem.
I’m okay with you unsubscribing to email updates – I don’t get a penny for sending them to you – it actually costs me a few pennies.

A lot of people in the trapping end of the business need to watch what they post on social media sites. I have trapped for over 46 years and some of the things that I have seen on social media posts such as youtube have done nothing positive but have damaged the trappers image. I have seen things that have turned me off not sure what they think they are doing.
