We’ve had some requests for fur handling videos recently, so I thought I would post a few that I’ve found on YouTube as part of a new fur handling series. We’ll start off with raccoon, with three short coon handling videos from the guys at Coon Creek Outdoors.

What is your preferred stitch for closing up bullet/pellet or natural wound damage in a pelt, and are headshots preferable insofar as the head isn’t really a marketable portion?
As far as washing, do you use any detergent? Hot or cold h2o?

How much are the coon hides going for this year? 2013-2014?

Just wondering how you get those Pogo s out of the ground. Been 25 years since I’ve been trapping thinking about getting back into it. I always used stakes in the past.

It can be tough to get them out! Sometimes they will pull out, but you usually have to do some digging. If you trap the same spot each year, some folks leave them in and just re-hook the trap to the cable the next year. I remember seeing a guy sell the bullet stakes with two cables: one attached to the center of the bullet to set it in the dirt, and another on the end of the bullet to twist the bullet back to the vertical position and pull it out. A little extra trouble but it seems to work. Hope it helps!
